Additional Information on The Restricted Class A License Ontario
What is the difference between the AR License and AZ License?
Drivers with a restricted Class A license condition (AR) are prohibited from operating a motor vehicle pulling double trailers or a trailer with air brakes. Whereas drivers with the AZ License can drive any truck/tractor-trailer or combination of motor vehicle and towed vehicles where the towed vehicles exceed a total gross weight of 4,600 kilograms.
Do I need a Restricted Class A License to drive a truck in Ontario?
To begin a career in commercial truck driving, you must obtain your Ontario Class A or Class D Truck Driver’s License. The type of commercial truck driving license you need depends on:
- The weight of the vehicle
- The weight of the towed vehicle
- Combined weight of the vehicle and towed vehicle
- Whether the vehicle is a tractor-trailer
- Whether or not the vehicle is equipped with air brakes
The Restricted Class A License Ontario is used for use for large vehicles like tractor trailers that do not have a trailer with air brakes.
